Patriots Origins
In 1993 in Cairns Queensland, five serving members of the Royal Australian Navy got together on the Fremantle class patrol boat HMAS Gladstone and decided there was a need for an unofficial social motorcycle club that allowed military personnel to get together for a ride and a beer rather than join the then fledgling Australian Army Motorcycle Association (now called ADF Motorcycle Association) and be forced to conform to the strict military hierarchy. From these five individuals, the Patriots Motorcycle Club was born which has now expanded to include hundreds of members in almost every State and Territory of Australia. In fact, there are now even Chapters in New Zealand. The NZ Chapters are run
along the same lines and with the same purpose as the Australian Chapters. We also have
Patriot friends in the United Kingdom and the US who provide a similar service for their members.
Ethos
The Australian and New Zealand Chapters both run in strict accordance
with the Defence Department guidelines in that we do not tolerate drugs,
violence or theft, nor do we discriminate on the basis of sex, race or orientation.
The Badge
We wear a cloth badge on the left
breast of a vest. The badge is a modified
version of the Joint Services Crest and is used to denote our love of the three Services
and those who died fighting for their country.
It consists of;
- an ANCHOR representing the Navy
- CROSSED SWORDS representing the Army
- WINGS representing the Air Force
- a SKULL representing those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice
- and three (3) colours:
- RED represents the blood spilt by Service personnel
- BLACK represents the colour of mourning
- WHITE represents the peace and freedom we enjoy thanks to our Service personnel
Patriots Australia Inc.
Patriots Australia is an Incorporated Association
registered with the Office of Fair Trading NSW. Patriots Australia
Incorporated represents the National body of Patriots and is the
registered Trade Mark holder of the Patriot Australia Logo. We aren't a
paramilitary organisation, however, we ask our members to wear any decoration
they have been awarded as a recognition of their service. First and foremost, we consider ourselves a social motorcycle
club for family and friends who love motorcycles and the camaraderie
of other military personnel. We try to maintain a close links with organisations such as the Defence Department, DVA,
Legacy, VVMC and local RSL’s and we try to live up to the ANZAC spirit of
lending a helping hand by raising money for local charities.
Membership
Full Membership is open to serving, former and reserve members of the
Australian, Commonwealth and Allied Defence Forces who ride a 250cc or
larger motorcycle. They must provide written proof of service and have a
clear criminal record. Non-riders and/or people without military backgrounds are welcome to join the club as Supporters. People wishing to apply for membership should check out the Prospects page and then email the Secretary (see Contact page) to find out more.
