Phantom's Nom Ride
Long Long ago in a land far far away
Hang on you can't do that it's already been used by Shriek
So who cares, there was a young man (read that as old fart trying to
look good) hard at work trying to organise a grand adventure. He toiled
over the maps trying to find a difficult and demanding route so as to
challenge the group accompanying him on his quest. After months of
research he finally accomplished the task. Every thing had been
organised meeting point, accommodation, resting places, meal brakes etc.
He contacted the interested persons and arranged times to meet to
discuss the trip and anything that he my have overlooked.
Then with only days to go before he and the others departed,
the weather changed and the rain that should have been here months ago
arrived. Part of the area that he had planned to trek through was now
underwater, homes had been flooded and livestock lost. The young man had
two chooses, to postpone or cancel his monumental trip. Then a very
trusted friend suggested a third opinion of taking another route but
making it shorter. The young man was running out of time, he had to
decide which way he was going to go before his window closed and he
would have to wait another year before heading off. So after sending
messages to everyone letting them know what was happening he sat down
and started a new plan of attach. A shorter trip with fewer stops meant
fewer things could go wrong. After a couple of days everything was ready
to go, then it happened again more rain and storms with even more to
come now he was in real trouble he had committed everything he had what
was he to do.
A sudden clap of thunder and I woke up with a start, it had
been all a dream, I was still in front of my computer trying to work out
what I was going to do for my nom's run after all plans had been
cancelled due to bad weather or the forecast of storms for the weekend.
On talking to Stevo and getting some further ideas I decided to have a
small trip around country Victoria before calling into Geelong on the
way home and having lunch. I called a few places and finally was able to
book a place just out of the Geelong business centre overlooking the
bay called The Wharf Shed.
On the day I meet up at stevo's and rode into the meeting
point in Melbourne. It was a typical winters day in Melbourne overcast
raining and with the wind already blowing. I had to change plans again, I
couldn't have people riding around in this weather on a nom's run or
anything else for that matter so I quickly decided to change plans
again. I could still leave at the same time but head straight to
Geelong. The Wharf had been booked for 12:00 so as long as we were there
about that time or if we got there a little earlier we could have a few
drinks before hand.
Everything went well except the weather, we had a nice lunch
some bigger than they would have liked. Then after lunch I was
presented with the Patriots Patch and thanked everyone for coming and
then gave out some gifts which everyone thought was a good idea. We then
headed back to Scorpions place and had a few beers before all heading
home. Everyone had a good day even with the weather and I thank everyone
for turning up.
