Stevo's Nom Ride
After sweating on Melbourne's miserable summer weather for a
week, Saturday dawned cloudy but mild. The expected top was 23 Celsius.
Great riding weather. Just as Chef and Sleeper arrived at my house for
the kick-off Scorpion rang to say that he couldn't make it as he had
been sick all night with the dreaded squats. So after waiting for Steve
(Scorpions mate) we headed off to the FUP at Shell Westgate. Gibbo had
already beaten us there so it was just a matter of waiting for Skinner
and then heading off. A lot of people were still on holiday so traffic
conditions were light and we arrived at the coffee shop in Tooradin
ahead of schedule. Clubs was to meet us there and the look on his face
was priceless when he saw all the Harleys parked out the front. Sorry
mate!
After a quick coffee it was off to San Remo. All up the
weather was pretty good with only a light shower (just enough to get the
bikes dirty) on the way through. The Vietnam Veterans museum was just
terrific with all sorts of displays. We had a look around and then rode
to the site of the new museum. John and Trish put on a fantastic BBQ and
John showed us around the site. It wasn't hard to visualise how it will
look when it is finished. These guys are all volunteers and deserve all
the help they can get.
After lunch came the important bits and Gibbo was presented
with his Nom's patch. Chef presented me with my Patch and welcomed me to
the club. I was as proud as punch to now be a member of a great club
and a better bunch of blokes you couldn't hope to meet. I hope I can do
justice to the patch.
Back to the museum and we purchased our memorabilia, fuelled
up next door then headed back to my place for a few sarsaparilla's.
Club's peeled off at Tooradin to head for home. (He was wrapped to
finally get a run down his way). Skinner dropped off at Mount Waverly to
get his wife and pick up his car.
Back home and the drinks were going down nicely with lots of
music and great company. Anny arrived and put out the meat platters
which went down a treat. A special thanks goes to Scorpion who pulled
himself out of his deathbed to make a special appearance.
After everybody left (don't know what time it was – must
have been those shooters), I sat up with Anny and had a couple more to
celebrate this day. I had a terrific time and it was made all the better
by knowing that there is plenty more to come with my brother Patriots.
