Prospect Information
The Melbourne Chapter offers two types of membership:
- Full Member
Open to serving, former and reserve members of the
Australian, Commonwealth and Allied Defence Forces who ride a 250cc or
larger motorcycle. You must have written proof of service and a
clear criminal record. It takes a minimum of twelve (12) months to become a Full Member.
- Supporter
Open to non-riders and/or people without military backgrounds. You also must have a
clear criminal record. It takes approximately three (3) months to become a Supporter. Supporters do not have voting rights nor can they be Chapter Officers (see Contact page).
Both types of membership require a person to serve a minimum period engaging the club in its activities. These periods have specific names which reflect the stage a person is at within the club hierarchy. They are:
Prospect (Full Members and Supporters)
The prospect period is a time when you get to know the club to see if it's what you want. It's also the time when the club assesses you to see if you are what they want. Generally the Prospect period is around three (3) months from the time when you visit the clubhouse and formally announce that you're interested in joining. During this period, you should get to know as many members as possible and attend as many events as you can to enable you can make an informed decision as to whether or not the club and this lifestyle is for you.
Nominee (Full Members Only)
The nominee period is when you learn about the Club, its Members and the MC world in general. During this period, you are assigned a Mentor so don’t be afraid to ask them questions. Get used to the idea that a Nominee ("Nom") is the bottom of the food chain who has no rank or privileges. Generally the Nominee period is three (3) months from when you are nominated to become a member, however, this period can be extended if the membership believes you aren't ready to be a Probationary Member.
Probationary Member (Full Members Only)
The probationary period is a minimum of six (6) months and even though you don't have voting rights yet, you're permitted to wear the Patriots patch and club regalia. As a Probationary Member ("Probie") you'll be given greater responsibility within the club especially in regards to organising events, rides and functions. Upon completion of your probationary period, the membership will either vote you a Full Member or extend your probationary time if they deem you not ready.
Membership Considerations
Before applying for Membership, there are several things to consider:
- Is this lifestyle for you?
- Do you feel kinship with the Patriots?
- Have you spent time at our clubhouse socialising with our members?
- Are you willing to put the time in for the Club?
- Can you afford the Application and yearly Membership Fees?
If you answer yes to all the above, membership may be for you. If you think it is, please fill out and submit the Membership Application Form below AFTER you have spoken to the Secretary first:
Note: Even though you electronically submit a Membership Application Form, you will still need to physically see the Secretary in order to sign it when you pay the Application fee.
